Richard Newman is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Smart Data Group, bringing extensive experience in corporate affairs, communications, and government relations within financial services and the technology sector.
Prior to establishing the Smart Data Group, Richard served as Chief of Staff to Open Banking's Implementation Trustees and as Director of Corporate Affairs at Open Banking Limited. He played a pivotal role in advancing open banking and smart data, fostering collaboration and alignment between government, regulatory and industry stakeholders. He brings 20 years of experience working in the private and public sector, including at the the Bank of England, European Parliament, Gibraltar Financial Services Commission and Barclays.
Richard has been a trusted advisor and a strong advocate for the development and implementation of smart data, supporting the Government's initial Smart Data Working Group and Smart Data Council. Through his work promoting smart data schemes, he has emphasised its potential to drive innovation and competition, enhance consumer outcomes, and deliver economic growth.
